The Death Letter Project
In late 2014 I was asked by the very talented photographic artist Tina Fiveash to participate in her PhD project. Tina had conceived of a fascinating idea - asking participants to write a letter about what death meant to them; photograph the participants, and then construct a web-exhibit that told these stories. Thus was born the Death Letter Project.
Flash forward to 2024, and the project has collected 100 Australian perspectives on death, and will receive a new focus, thanks to a program on SBS, entitled Ray Martin: The Last Goodbye. In this series, “Australia’s friend”, the journalist Ray Martin, plans his own funeral and examine how Australians plan for death. I’m looking forward to seeing this show, and am grateful that Tina’s project will get a whole new audience.
